Kannur Intrnational Airport
Minister of State for Railways Suresh Prabhu and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan opened the Kannur airport in Kerala. With this, Kerala has got 4 international airports in India. Already there are international airports in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode.
Kannur Airport openning today (9th Dec) is constructed at a cost of Rs.1,800 crore, 2 thousand acres of land. The airport is designed to handle 2,000 passengers daily and 15 lakh passengers per year. The flight runway is 3,050 meters. It is also possible to raise it to 4 thousand meters. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's hometown is Kannur.
The Congress and the BJP boycotted the event today. The BJP has boycotted the state government's decision on Sabarimala issue. The Congress boycotted the former Chief Minister Umno Sandi for not being properly called. Former Chief Minister Achuthanandan has not been called for this event. The land acquisition work for the airport was done during the reign of Achuthanandan.
